Get Started
Gotham Swords: The Gotham European Martial Arts Collective (GEMAC) is a swordsmanship and martial arts school based in New York City.
We specialize in the study and practice of various historical fighting systems developed between the 13th and 19th centuries. Our unique courses offer individuals the opportunity to engage in a form of martial arts that is both physically demanding and intellectually stimulating.
Join a Class
If you are new to swordsmanship, head over to our BookWhen page and sign up for any of our Beginner or All Level classes. These courses are accessible to students of all degree experience, and do not require special gear to participate, only some comfortable athletic clothing and in-door gym shoes.
If you have previous HEMA experience feel free to register for an All Level, Intermediate, or Advanced class appropriate to your previous experience and the amount of protective training gear you have available. Don't forget to check class listings for gear requirements before booking!
Are an experienced teacher that would like to work with us to offer classes, seminars, or events? That's awesome, send us an e-mail at contact@gemac.club.
Learn the Fundamentals
Beginner and All Level classes will help you safely start your journey regardless of your previous experience. Instructors teach you the foundational movements, skills, and techniques of swordsmanship as well as the foundations of being a good training partner.
Check out our Code of Conduct and Notes on Etiquette to learn more about our approach to training.
Join Our Discord Community
Our Discord Community is great way to introduce yourself to the instructors and fellow students. It's also the best place to get real-time updates regarding classes and events!
Sticking Around?
We hope you love swordsmanship and continue to train with us! If you do, you'll need to pick up an In-network Discounted Alliance Membership ($26), and will want to pick up a protective mask and gloves.
As you progress we encourage you to purchase a Gotham Swords Uniform Shirt, and 3/4 Athletic Pants or Sports Kilt in Purple* (*we recommend "men's cut" for all genders as the "women's cut" is excessively short).
For more information regarding practice weapons and training equipment, check out our Guide to Training Gear.
